NP-Mansfield students to continue track careers at Mansfield University
North Penn-Mansfield seniors Lyndsey Payne and Miranda Hampshire announced on Tuesday, May 30 that they will be continuing their education and track careers at Mansfield University.
The teammates competed all four years for North Penn-Mansfield, and became key contributors the team’s success. At the NTL Championships, Payne, who will also be running Cross Country for MU, finished second (2nd) in the 800-meter run, seventh (7th) in the 1600-meter run, and her 4×400 meter relay team finished fourth (4th). Hampshire competed in the 4×100 meter relay where her team finished sixth (6th), the 100-meter dash where she placed thirteenth (13th), and the high jump where she finished tenth (10th). Their most recent appearance on the track was at the District IV Championships at Williamsport High School where Lyndsey placed eighth (8th) in the 800-meter run, and both competed in relays as Lyndsey’s 4×400 meter team finished nineteenth (19th), and Miranda’s 4×100 meter team finished fifteenth (15th).
Both girls are looking forward to the more intensive workouts to help them prepare for collegiate competition. They are also going to miss their teammates after a fun and memorable senior season.
Head Coach Jim Farrer is appreciative of their leadership this season.
“They improved tremendously from their Freshman year through their last meet of their Senior season,” said Farrer. “They provided leadership by example, which with this year having so many new bodies to the program, having that veteran leadership was outstanding.”
Farrer was also asked what advice he would give to the girls as they move on to the collegiate level.
“Be ready to work hard, be humble, be prepared for some setbacks, it’s a completely different world at the collegiate level. They have tremendous opportunities and outstanding coaching at Mansfield University.”
