North Penn-Mansfield Senior, Jillian Berguson, announced on Thursday, August 10, that she will continue her softball career at Mercyhurst University.

Berguson will be playing for Merchyhurst’s branch campus, Mercyhurst North East, where she will be majoring in Biology for the first two years, then hopes to move to Mercyhurst’s main campus to major in Athletic Training her Junior and Senior year. Jillian is excited to play for Mercyhurst North East Head Coach, Brian Dewey, who has plenty of recent success and playoff experience. “My coach has an amazing record there so I am really excited.” said Berguson. “He has taken his team to the regional tournament several times so it’s great to experience that.” Jillian also credits her time playing for North Penn-Liberty and her summer travel team to being prepared for the collegiate level.

In her Senior season, Berguson helped the Mounties to a 17-6 overall record with an 11-4 record in the NTL, a second place finish in the District IV Tournament, and a PIAA State Playoff berth, which was a first for North Penn-Liberty Softball. Jillian was a standout catcher, and contributed to the lineup with a .216 batting average, a .317 on base percentage, and 7 RBI’s in her last season. She finished with a .299 on base percentage and 12 RBI’s for her career.

North-Penn Liberty Co-Varsity Coaches, Lynn Grinnell and Brandy Heatley, and Assistant Coach Dan Doney all had a piece of advice for Jillian as she moves on. “Enjoy it” said Grinnell. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime, you just enjoy.” “Keep striving and making those goals” said Heatley. “No goal is ever too big to reach.” “Work hard and have fun” said Doney. “Just have fun with it.”
